Lessons from 15 Years
of physically preparing the elite athlete
This book is all about the
experiences of a strength and conditioning coach - Ian King
- over a period of a decade. A decade of working with
predominantly elite athlete, in many sports, and in many
countries. More experiences crammed into those ten years
than many cram into a lifetime.
The career path for a
strength and conditioning coach is not as clearly
delineated as in other service professions. Therefore it
It
can be difficult and frustrating to establish yourself in
the sports industry as a strength and conditioning coach or
consultant. Or as a coach, you may be experiencing the
challenges of physically preparing your athletes. Now you
can share the triumphs and tribulations of someone who has
gone before you, who has faced these challenges and won. Or
perhaps you are simply interested in what really goes on
behind the scenes in preparing athletes for competition.
There are
more experiences crammed into the fifteen years covered in
this book than many cram into a life. In what may be the
first book of it's kind, Ian shares with the readers the
revelations that may only be obtained from having ‘been
there’. In language that the practitioner can readily
identify with. You will find this ground-breaking book
incredibly enlightening and entertaining. And more
importantly, it will accelerate your professional
development, your career opportunities, and ultimately your
earning potential….

What others have said about
the 'Winning and Losing' book!
I really enjoyed
Winning and Losing. I don't think there is another
strength and conditioning coach in the world who has
contributed as much to the field and its evolution as
you. Most people try to bury their past mistakes, you
allow others to learn from them. I look forward to
reading the books you recommended as well as seeing your
Speed Videos.

I recently finished
The Winning and Losing book and wanted to let you know
how many great things I have learned, was reminded of
from days training with you, and the number of useful
quotes I have already been sharing to inspire and
motivate both the athletes and coaches.
The biography aspect
of the book was also very interesting to say the least.
Wow, I was unaware that all this crap that you had to go
through while you were working with us; as well as the
ongoing saga afterwards. You certainly are a
professional and an inspiration in the way you deal with
things! You always take the high road and I will strive
to do the same in the face of adversity!

I have just finished
reading "Winning & Losing", a great read. It should be
on the reading lists for a heap of physical preparation
courses. It reveals so many lessons that took you years
in observation to learn and many missing pieces to the
puzzle are explained. Unfortunately, the people who need
to know this invaluable information (the people with the
power) are already too smart to learn from such
information! It made it all the more interesting given
the fact that many of your lessons came as a result of
rugby and those involved in the game. Cheers

I just finished your
book, Winning and Losing, Losing and Winning, and was
very impressed. So much so that I am budgeting to order
your Strength Specialization Course in December. I
wanted you to know that as much as I respect the
incredible amount of knowledge you are able to share,
what most impresses me is that you practice and preach
the quality of humility. I have attended many seminars
and read books and articles from prominent strength
coaches over the years and am continually amazed at the
size of their egos and their refusal to even consider
any method besides their own. One prominent coach
routinely belittles seminar attendees if he feels they
ask a stupid question! Several people I know paid a
good sum of money and then feel intimidated to ask a
question for fear of being ridiculed. Anyway, your book
was full of pertinent information and a breath of fresh
air. I look forward to receiving your other materials.
Thanks!

Reading what you have
done (Winning and Losing) and learning from it gives me
more experience to draw from (even though it isn't my
personal experience), ensuring when I find myself in
similar situations in the future, I'll know how to
handle it/them confidently and correctly. Thanks for
sharing your experiences.

I've been reading
‘Winning and Losing’; very informative. It is the first
time anyone in this industry has been forthright about
the journey to the top. Many of the other top trainers
seem like they just ‘arrived’ out of thin air. I
appreciate the insight on how to achieve elite status in
our industry. It's a must read for anyone who is serious
about their career in the field of athletic preparation.
Thanks again Ian!

I found your Winning
and Losing book extremely thought provoking. I consider
myself privileged to have the access to your
experiences, learn by them, form my own opinions and put
them into practice.
Physical
preparation
is such an unknown quantity and if we dare to enter that
realm we will be constantly bombarded with questions
that have not previously been answered. The question
then is are we willing to take the challenge and step
up. It is that challenge that keeps us evolving.
I wish you and Teresa well and look forward with
interest to any future publications that are produced.
